David Nicholls won legions of readers with his modern romances One Day and Us and is equally successful as a screenwriter both in adapting his own work – Starter for 10 – and that of others – his Patrick Melrose has won him a 2019 BAFTA. Sweet Sorrow is a bittersweet evocation of 1990s adolescence and first love, drawing on his own first love, Shakespeare. He’ll be in conversation with novelist, Patrick Gale.
