Book Surfers this year gives you three workshops with wildly contrasting writers for young adults.
John Boyne – Irish novelist John Boyne started writing as a teenager and challenges his readers with serious, hard-hitting issues. He is best known for his YA book The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, which is based on the Holocaust. His latest, My Brother’s Name is Jessica, deals with the topical issue of gender identity. You can visit John‘s website by clicking here.
Liz Kessler – Best-selling Cornwall-based author Liz Kessler’s last YA book Haunt Me, an intensely romantic and haunting novel about how love can overcome the ultimate divide – that between life and death – won the Kernow Youth Book Award. Liz will share tips, tricks and writing techniques to help you invent stories of your own. You can visit Liz’s website by clicking here.
Matt Windle – A huge hit at our 2017 festival, Birmingham-based Matt Windle is also known as the Poet with Punch – a poet by day and a professional boxer by night. Matt will deliver an inspiring workshop based on his own brand of spoken-word poetry that is guaranteed to change your perceptions of what poetry is and how you feel about it. He uses the unusual blend of boxing and poetry to break stereotypes and prove that people can be as diverse and unique as they want to be. You can visit Matt‘s website by clicking here.
